Summer Hair Color Trends

Now that summer is in full swing, it’s a great time to look at a hot new hair color. It’s easier to switch up your hair color when you have a nice summer glow on your skin and you want your hair to stand out.

The warmer hues are hot in the summer months because the warmth creates sparkle and depth – something we’ve been craving for quite a while now.

Whether it’s full color or just a fresh set of highlights, we’re seeing a great color transformation with high energy. Here are some of the biggest summer hair colors for 2022.

Honey-Gold Bronde. This is the perfect union of blonde and brunette that creates a gorgeous silhouette. With a warm medium to light brunette base infused with light blended honey-gold highlights strategically ribboned through the hair, it’s maximum vibrancy and contrast from the roots to the ends. Your hair will glisten in the hot summer sun! We recommend using a treatment mask once a week to nourish strands and boost the shine in between salon appointments.

Peaches and Pinks. Looking for a fun color this summer? We’re seeing a lot of pink and peach tones added to light blonde tones. The warm-toned neon, no matter which you choose, goes well with many skin tones and can be a great overall color or used as highlights.

Sun Baked Blonde. This has moved to the front of even platinum blonde for summer. This sun-baked, beachy blonde hue feels raw and looks effortless – the perfect look that’s easy to maintain and looks like you were born with this color.

Shimmery Raven. We love this dark, exotic color even for summer. The secret is to use a high gloss for an immense shine and outrageous reflective qualities in the sun. Want to mix it up a little? Give yourself a hot new cut, shimmery raven color, and use a hot neon on the tips for a hot look.

Sun Kissed Brunette. Brunette is never boring and this neutral medium brown base with golden hazelnut highlights is no exception. The highlights create texture and dimension for the summer and you choose how heavy you want to go with the highlights to customize the look.

Soft Warmth. Whether it’s blond, red, or brunette, we see a large following for warm, glossy hair. The tones are leaning toward golden blondes, strawberry blondes, ginger, and warm-tones brunettes all with minimal highlighting. The soft highlights are just enough to give some sparkle and a touch of dimension without being obvious.

Endless Reds. We’re getting asked about all different shades of red this summer! Whether it’s blondes wanting to go strawberry blonde or brunettes requesting all different shades of amber to dark auburn. If you want a little excitement for the summer, there’s nothing that’ll get you there faster than going red.

There are things you can do at home as well to keep your hair healthy.

Conditioning is essential. Your hair gets as thirsty in the summer as you. Treating it to extra moisture-rich conditioning is vital. Switching your shampoo and conditioner to moisture-rich formulas is helpful but you may need more. Conditioning masks and leave-in conditioners can give you the deeper level of moisture that your hair needs. At Aro Salon, you can also get a professional deep conditioning treatment to restore the silkiness and stop damage before it occurs.

Use sunscreen for your hair. Yes, it’s a thing and there are haircare products that include the right amount of sunscreen to protect your scalp and hair. Your skin isn’t the only thing that can be damaged by the summer’s harsh UV rays.

Avoid unnecessary heat. You’re already exposed to outdoor summer heat. When you can, ditch the heated hair styling tools. If you blow-dry your hair, use a heat protectant product first, and dry on a low-heat setting. Try to cut down on your use of your curling rod and straightener as much as possible. The natural, carefree look is in this summer anyway, so embrace it!

Say goodbye to the swimmer’s hair. We all know the damage both chlorinated water and salt water can cause to our hair. Whether it turning our blonde hair green or feeling like our hair has turned to straw after a dip in the ocean, there are ways to protect our hair while still having our summer fun.

To minimize damage, rinse your hair with cool, fresh water before taking a swim. You can also apply a protective hair mask designed for swimming to add an extra layer of protection. If you have freshly colored hair, it’s best to not get your hair wet with either pool or ocean water. Protect it from fading in the sun and water with a swim cap if you are an avid swimmer.

Protect your color from the sun. The best way to protect your hair color is to cover your hair as much as possible when you’re going to be out in the sun for an extended amount of time. A wide-brimmed hat or a trendy scarf that matches your summer outfit will be perfect while keeping your hair protected from the sun.

Professional haircare products. No matter what hair color you decide on, keeping your hair healthy and color vibrant during the summer is key. At Aro Salon, we carry a full line of Kerastase Professional Hair Products. Your Aro stylist can help you determine which products are best for your hair.
